A second season of WandaVision probably isn’t happening, but its head writer isn’t leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Jac Schaeffer has inked a new overall deal with Marvel and 20th Television. Under its terms, she will create new small-screen projects for both Disney-owned studios over a three year period.
Schaeffer’s work on WandaVision received critical praise earlier this year. However, this wasn’t her first trip to the Marvel sandbox. She landed the gig after working on screenplays for both Captain Marvel and Black Widow. In addition to creating the series, she also penned scripts for its first and final episodes. Additionally, the positive reception has emboldened Marvel to campaign for WandaVision to be recognized at this year’s Emmy awards in the Outstanding Limited Series category.

Before joining the MCU braintrust, Schaeffer wrote and directed the 2009 film Timer. She previously worked with Disney in 2017 when she penned the script for Olaf’s Frozen Adventure. That was an animated short that had Josh Gad returning to voice his character from Frozen. More recently, Schaeffer co-wrote The Hustle, which hit theaters in 2019.
All nine episodes of WandaVision are currently available to stream on Disney+. Viewers can next see Schaeffer’s work on display when Black Widow hits theaters and Disney+ Premier Access on July 9.
