Courtney Whitmore’s circle of super-friends is expanding in Stargirl season 2. In addition to her Justice Society teammates, the new episodes will also bring several fresh faces into Courtney’s orbit to help her against the new threats facing Blue Valley. And while speaking with Collider, series star Brec Bassinger revealed which of these characters are her favorites.
One of the most exciting new additions to the show this year is Jade, the daughter of Alan Scott/Green Lantern played by Ysa Penarejo. Many of the trailers for Stargirl’s new season have shown her and Courtney duking it out at their first meeting. And although they’ll most likely overcome their differences at some point, Bassinger says Courtney will have some deeply personal reasons for not taking to Jade right away.
“Courtney is definitely intimidated by her,” said Bassinger. “At the end of Season 1, Courtney found out that Starman is not actually her father. That’s something she’s still dealing with. When she comes around, she really is a superhero’s daughter and Courtney is jealous. She’s aware of it, but it’s a learning curve for Courtney. She has to step back and be like, “Just because I’m not a superhero’s daughter, it doesn’t make me any less. The staff did choose me” She plays a big part in Courtney learning that.”

Additionally, Bassinger shared her excitement for fans to see other new characters Johnny Thunder and Thunderbolt, the latter of whom required some digital wizardry to bring him to life.
“It’s funny because I haven’t even seen him,” added Bassinger. “It’s all visual effects. I’m excited for other people to see it, but I’m also excited to see it too. Also, The Shade is such a dynamic character. He did such a good job balancing the evil and the not evil, and the good and the bad. He found a really cool balance there.”
Stargirl season 2 premieres tonight at 8pm on The CW.
