Two months after the unexpected death of Gen V star Chance Perdomo, executive producer Eric Kripke has opened up about how the actor’s tragic passing has reshaped the forthcoming second season of The Boys spinoff series.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke addressed how Perdomo’s death has affected his former co-stars, stating, “I really feel for the actors because they were such a family. I know it’s really hard on a lot of them.”
Perdomo played Andre Anderson in the first season of Gen V, which premiered on Prime Video in September 2023. The actor tragically died in a motorcycle crash at age 27 in March 2024.
Gen V will not recast Andre Anderson
Earlier this month, the producers of Gen V released a statement on the social media platform X, where they announced that Perdomo’s role would not be recast for Season 2.
“As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory,” the statement read. “We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our Season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.”
While speaking with EW, Kripke noted that rewriting Season 2 in the wake of Perdomo’s death has “been challenging, to say the least.” He explained, “We were a week away from shooting when Chance passed away tragically. So we had to almost rethink everything, and in just a matter of weeks. But what I tell people when they say ‘wow, that’s really crazy or difficult’ [is] that pales in comparison to what his friends and loved ones are going through. It’s the least we could do.”
Set at God U — a university that is owned and operated by Vought International — Gen V follows the lives of several young students as they train for a chance to be the next generation of Vought superheroes. The first season, which is set concurrently with the fourth season of The Boys, starred Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau, Lizze Broadway as Emma Meyer, Maddie Phillips as Cate Dunlap, London Thor and Derek Luh as Jordan Li, Asa Germann as Samuel Riordan, and Shelley Conn as Indira Shetty.
Gen V Season 2 does not have a release date at this time. The Boys Season 4 premieres on Prime Video on June 13, 2024.
