If not for puberty, Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Walker Scobell would have been Kidpool in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Ever since Scobell starred in the 2022 Netflix movie, The Adam Project, as a younger version of Ryan Reynolds‘ character, Adam Reed, several Marvel fans expressed interest in seeing the actor portray Kidpool in the third Deadpool movie. While that ultimately didn’t happen, it wasn’t without trying as Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy recently revealed that Scobell was a lock to play the character until he hit puberty.
“If Walker Scobell had stopped evolving right before puberty, he absolutely would’ve been Kidpool,” the director told Entertainment Weekly. “It was his dream. Ryan and I reached out to him once we realized he was now going to be too old, both too tall and with his voice too low. Puberty is what it is, and all the Hollywood dreams in the world can’t stop it. So we did call Walker and explain why he couldn’t be Kidpool, and he was completely understanding.”
Who did play Kidpool in Deadpool & Wolverine?
Introduced in Prelude to Deadpool Corps #5 in 2010, Kidpool is a younger version of the Merc with a Mouth who possesses the same superpowers as his adult counterpart. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Kidpool, who is part of the Deadpool Corps, is portrayed by Reynolds’ seven-year-old daughter, Inez Reynolds. In an Instagram post, Reynolds revealed that his daughter was the “only costar I argued with. Most people think Kidpool is the dirtiest. But she’s also pretty good at backtalk and never taking out the trash.”
Deadpool & Wolverine has been cleaning up at the box office since the Marvel Studios production was released in theaters on July 26. After a record-breaking opening weekend of $211 million — the highest ever for an R-rated movie — the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is now within reach of crossing $400 million domestically. Globally, Deadpool & Wolverine sits at $824.1 million.
