Incredibles 3 Announced at D23, First Details Shared

Pixar is returning to the world of The Incredibles.

During the animation studio’s presentation at D23, Pete Docter — Chief Creative Officer at Pixar — revealed that Incredibles 3 is in early development. He also confirmed that Brad Bird, who wrote and directed both The Incredibles (2004) and Incredibles 2 (2018), would be returning for the upcoming superhero sequel. No further details were shared at this time.

Following the announcement, Pixar shared the official title treatment and logo for Incredibles 3 on its X account. Both can be viewed below:

The Incredibles follows the superpowered Parr family as they hide their powers from the world following a government mandate in a retro-futuristic version of the 1960s. However, after Bob/Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) secretly resumes fighting crime, the rest of his family — wife Helen/Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), daughter Violet (Sarah Vowell), and sons Dash (Spencer Fox) and Jack-Jack — as well as Bob’s superhero ally Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson,) are eventually drawn into his mission to stop a vengeful fan-turned-foe, Syndrome (Jason Lee).

The sequel, Incredibles 2, picks up directly after the events of The Incredibles and follows the Parr family as they try to restore the public’s trust in superheroes while balancing family life. Nelson, Hunter, Vowell, and Jackson reprise their roles from the first film, while Huckleberry Milner replaces Fox as the voice of Dash.

Both animated movies were major successes at the box office, grossing a combined $1.8 billion worldwide. The Incredibles and Incredibles 2 were also positively received by critics, with the former winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2005. The latter was nominated in 2019 but lost to another animated superhero movie, Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Incredibles 3 is the third Pixar franchise to receive at least three films
