Syfy visited New York Comic-Con to screen the world premiere of the first episode of Deadly Class, which is based on the acclaimed Image comic book. However, fans at home will have to settle for a new trailer showcasing new footage from the show’s inaugural season. Syfy also announced that the series will premiere on January 16, 2019 at 10pm.
The latest preview clocks in at less than a minute, but fans of the comic will no doubt be able to recognize several key characters including Marcus Lopez (Benjamin Wadsworth), Master Lin (Benedict Wong), Saya (Lana Condor), and Billy (Liam James). Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the show appears to be taking full advantage of the book’s ’80s punk backdrop. There’s also some weirdness with a TV that made us go “WTF?!” But in a good way. The entire thing plays against Nancy Reagan’s infamous “just say no” PSA.

Deadly Class was created by writer Rick Remender and artist Wes Craig, and the comic debuted in 2014. The story is set in the late ’80s, and centers on Marcus, the orphaned son of Nicaraguan refugees. He blames President Ronald Reagan for the death of his parents, while living in squalor on the streets of San Francisco. Marcus is soon recruited to join Kings Dominion Atelier of the Deadly Arts, a hidden school for assassins run by the mysterious Master Lin. Befriending a ragtag group of like-minded misfits, Marcus navigates the school’s volatile social strata while also being forced to confront the demons of his past.
Deadly Class is executive produced by the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Infinity War), with Remender, Miles Orion Feldsott, and Mick Betancourt acting as showrunners.
