This week’s episode of The Flash dealt with daughter and parent bonds between Caitlin and her previously missing father, as well as Nora and Iris. In last week’s episode, Nora finally saw Iris risk her life to save Barry, and it changed her mind about her mother. Cisco also managed to gain control of the Thinker’s satellites so Team Flash could find Caitlin’s father, Thomas Frost. In The Flash season 5 episode 6, we learned that Thomas is more like his daughter than we previously believed.
Family Reunion
Using the info from the satellites and other sources, Cisco tracked Thomas’ location to a facility that hadn’t been used in years. Barry and Cisco accompanied Caitlin to the base through a breach portal, where they found Thomas. He knew who they were because he had been patched through to the STAR Labs security feed. When they returned to Central City, Caitlin and Thomas went out to spend time with each other. However, Cisco was suspicious about Thomas’ story. Meanwhile, Caitlin was with her father when he collapsed, and she discovered that his ALS cure had turned into a mutation that turned his cells to ice.
Satellite Hunters
Sherloque and Iris teamed up to find clues about Cicada’s real identity, but Nora insisted upon coming along. After pushing Iris away for so long, Nora was practically desperate to get close to her mother and watch her in action. However, their different skill sets made it awkward when they tried to collaborate. Sherloque came up with a way to make Iris and Nora come together, first by annoying them and then by letting them figure out how they could retrieve the satellite core that made Cicada. Iris talked Nora through the steps to retrieve the core, and they brought it back to STAR Labs.
How Cecille Got Her Grove Back
Meanwhile, Ralph went looking for Joe to get some official back up while questioning FEMA sites that may have treated Cicada’s child. Apparently Joe was taking a very long walk. So Cecille volunteered to go in his stead. Although it’s more like Ceille insisted upon going, and Ralph easily caved. Unfortunately, Cecille almost instantly broke down when she and Ralph confronted a suspicious FEMA worker. Later, Cecille and Ralph realized that her bout of nervousness was actually her empathic powers sensing the worker’s state of mind. After confronting him again, they discovered the identity of Cicada’s injured daughter. Cecille also reported the FEMA worker for skimming funds from relief efforts.
Elsewhere, Cicada had a brutal fight with a female meta who could transform her hands into razors. Cicada murdered the woman, but not before she seriously wounded him. While attempting to treat his injuries at the hospital, Cicada encountered a nurse who was sympathetic to his anti-meta murder spree. Although Cicada turned down the nurse’s offer for help, she found him after he collapsed at his home. But when she went to treat the shrapnel in his shoulder, Cicada insisted it was making him stronger.
The Icicle Cometh
Cisco followed his instincts and returned to Thomas’ arctic lab. He soon discovered that Caitlin’s father wasn’t really Thomas at all. Instead, it as his alternate personality, whom they called Icicle. When Team Flash confronted him, Icicle stole the serum created by Caitlin. He attempted to inject himself and permanently become the Icicle. However, Caitlin’s Killer Frost persona finally resurfaced and she stopped her father cold. Unfortunately, Icicle still managed to escape from his daughter and her friends. The good news is that both of Caitlin’s personalities were now able to communicate with each other thanks to Cisco’s tech.
