Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Renewed for Two More Seasons

We already knew that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was coming back for a second season. However, Netflix has revealed that Kiernan Shipka’s subversive take on the Archie Comics character is sticking around for a bit longer. The streaming service has ordered 16 additional episodes of the series, spread out over two seasons. You can check out their announcement via Twitter below.

The series’ first season introduced us to the modern Sabrina Spellman, a half-witch born to a family of magical devil worshippers. Although she is expected to pledge her undying fealty to Satan on her 16th birthday, she hesitates upon learning she’ll be forced to relinquish all ties to her mortal life, including her friends and boyfriend. Over the course of 10 episodes, she endures harrowings, demons, and botched resurrection spells. In the season finale, Sabrina was tricked by Madam Satan into signing her name in the Book of the Beast in order to save Greendale from a supernatural force. The episode’s last scene showed her sporting a new platinum blonde hairdo and seemingly embracing her devilish nature.

With 16 more episodes in the works, this likely means that seasons 3 and 4 will air eight episodes apiece. Obviously, these would be shorter than the 10-episode narratives of the first two seasons, but that’s not necessarily a detriment. Crafting tighter storylines could reduce the amount of unneeded filler scenes, which were among of the inaugural season’s weak points. Most recently, the series released a holiday episode, titled “A Midwinter’s Tale,” last week. That special should be enough to hold fans over until season 2 premieres on April 5, 2019.
