The crew of the Nightflyer has taken their last voyage. SYFY has canceled the adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Nightflyers after only a single season.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Nightflyers was a costly gamble for the network and possibly the most expensive SYFY original series ever made. Martin’s original novella was published in 1980, and previously adapted as a film in 1987. Because of his production deal with HBO, Martin had limited involvement with SYFY’s adaptation. Jeff Buhler served as the showrunner and executive producer for the ten episode season.
As noted in the report, SYFY dropped all of the episodes in December over ten straight nights. Unfortunately, the ratings peaked at 623,000 viewers, and only 420,000 live viewers returned for the finale. SYFY attempted to defray the cost of the series by partnering with Netflix, which held the international rights to the show. However, the series failed to breakout on Netflix as well. That means chances of a revival are very slim.

Eoin Macken headlined the series as Karl D’Branin, the leader of the Nightflyer expedition. Gretchen Mol co-starred in the series as Agatha Math, alongside David Ajala as Captain Roy Eris, and Jodie Turner-Smith as Melantha Jhirl. Sam Strike was also a primary cast member as Thale, the ship’s telepath. Angus Sampson, Maya Eshet, and Brían F. O’Byrne rounded out the cast. With the apparent end of the series, the cast is now free to join other shows.
