Kate Kane’s Origin Unfolds in the First Batwoman Trailer

Last year, Ruby Rose made her debut as Batwoman during The CW’s Elseworlds crossover. But next fall, Batwoman will headline her own series on Sunday nights. During The CW’s upfronts presentation, the network dropped a first look at the Batwoman trailer. The extended clip plays out like a condensed version of the pilot episode. Just call it Batwoman Begins.

The trailer quickly establishes Rose’s Kate Kane and Catherine Hamilton-Kane (Elizabeth Anweis), Kate’s step-mother and nemesis. Catherine calls out Batman for abandoning his city, but his real fate is enigmatic. Kate doesn’t get involved in the war on crime until her twisted sister, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) kidnaps Sophie Moore (Meagan Tandy), the woman Kate loved while they were in the military together.

Camrus Johnson’s Luke Fox is introduced in a way that is reminiscent of Mr. Terrific on Arrow. The son Bruce Wayne’s right hand man, Lucius Fox, can’t stop Kate from bursting in on the Batcave. But she seems to be fully aware of her cousin’s secret life. Moreover, she actually uses a modified Batman costume her first time out. The trailer also explains why Kate ultimately redesigns the costume to include long flowing red hair. It turns out she just doesn’t want Batman getting credit for her work.

Dougray Scott co-stars in the series as Kate’s father Jacob Kane. Nicole Kang will play Kate’s stepsister. Mary Hamilton. The CW will air Batwoman on Sunday nights this fall.
