The Boys’ series premiere is still one week away. But apparently, Amazon has faith in the longevity of the show. Variety reports that the streaming service has already renewed the series for a second season.
News of the show’s early renewal came just as its Comic-Con panel was getting underway. According to writer and executive producer Seth Rogen (via IGN), the cast and crew had just flown in from the show’s Toronto set. It turns out that they’ve already filmed a number of scenes for the new episodes.
“We’re literally halfway through filming the second season,” Rogen remarked.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Aya Cash will take on the role of Stormfront in the new season. In Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s original comic, Stormfront was a male supersoldier developed by the Third Reich in 1938. Although he masquerades as a superhero, the character holds white supremacist viewpoints that align with those of your run-of-the-mill Neo-Nazi. Visually, the character is clearly a hybrid of mainstream comic book heroes like Shazam and Thor.

Cash is best known for her lead role on FXX’s You’re the Worst, which concluded its five-season run this spring. More recently, she appeared on FX’s Fosse/Verdon miniseries and also had a recurring role on Netflix’s Easy.
The Boys had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival back in April. So far, most critics have praised the series for being a fresh, subversive take on the superhero genre. However, others have suggested that it relies too heavily on shock value.
