Two years ago, director Stephen Daldry was reportedly lined up to direct a stand alone Obi-Wan Kenobi film. However, the disappointing box office of Solo: A Star Wars Story seemingly killed the planned spinoff. But at D23, Ewan McGregor confirmed the rumors that he would return as Obi-Wan for his own series on Disney+. Now, Disney and Lucasfilm have found a new director for that project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Deborah Chow has joined the Obi-Wan series. But it’s unclear how many episodes she will direct or even the total number of episodes. The report states that there will be six to eight episodes in the show.
Chow already has experience in the Star Wars universe. She directed two episodes of The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series. Chow has also helmed episodes of Jessica Jones, Lost in Space, American Gods, Mr. Robot, and Better Call Saul.

The Obi-Wan series is likely to film next year for a potential 2021 release. However, there are very few details currently known about the show. Presumably it will take place during the nearly two decades Obi-Wan spent on Tatooine watching Luke Skywalker from a afar. A few Star Wars novels and comics have explored that time in Obi-Wan’s life. But it’s a largely untapped area of Kenobi’s history.
