Jodie Whittaker Will Stay on Doctor Who at Least One More Season

Good news for the Thirteenth Doctor’s fans. It seems that Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker will keep on traveling back and forth in time for another season with the TARDIS, at least. The British actress broke the news in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, confirming what many had already guessed.

“Yes, I’m doing another season,” Whittaker said. “That might be a massive exclusive that I’m not supposed to say, but it’s unhelpful for me to say [I don’t know] because it would be a massive lie! [Laughs] I absolutely adore it. At some point, these shoes are going to be handed on, but it’s not yet. I’m clinging on tight!”

Whittaker became the first woman to ever play the Time Lord on the screen after she replaced Peter Capaldi back in 2018.

The actress took on the critics surrounding her casting as the Doctor and the controversy for some of the episodes’ content from the last season. Whittaker confessed that she doesn’t pay a lot of attention to fan criticism, because it is out of her control.

“It’s never been that great for me to immerse myself in noise that you can’t control, good or bad,” she stated. “I think both are a rabbit hole that you shouldn’t necessarily go down. We know that we work really hard for the show to be the best it can be in this moment. Once it’s out in the ether, how people feel, in a way, is kind of irrelevant.”

Nonetheless, the British actress’ work on the Doctor Who series has been received positively by many fans and critics alike. Her casting has brought a refreshing new tone to the historic British sci-fi series.

The next episode of Doctor Who will air Jan. 26. Do you like Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor? Let us know in the comments section below.
