For anyone who wants Willow to make his return on Disney+, you’re going to have to wait just a bit longer. Despite rumors that had been circulating about the show beginning production, Warwick Davis recently provided an update while speaking to Inverse.
“The internet has got a little bit ahead of us here,” explained Davis. “There’s a lot of work on development and working out what this potentially could be, but there’s no definite green light, go, we’re doing this. “
However, Davis did offer some hope as well.
“There’s a lot of work going on,” added Davis. “The right people have come together. There’s a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of goodwill from the right people and also from the fans. I think that’s what’s really so heartwarming is the enthusiasm from people around the world. I think there’s a firm chance that this is going to be something that becomes a reality. Definitely.”

When Willow initially released in 1988, it made $110 million against a $35 million budget. Since then, it’s become a cult classic with fans. There were discussions that began picking up back in May about the film’s director, Ron Howard, wanting to bring Willow back as a series. More recently, Jon Kasdan indicated that the Willow sequel series was entering pre-production.
If it goes forward, Davis is obviously on board, but there’s no word yet about whether Val Kilmer or the other stars are interested. While waiting, fans can revisit Willow on Digital HD and Blu-Ray, or on Disney+.
