Watch Andrew Lincoln’s Farewell Message to Former Walking Dead Castmate Danai Gurira

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for last Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead!

Thankfully, Michonne lived to fight another day in her last episode of The Walking Dead. But still, fans of the series are still processing Danai Gurira’s departure from the series in different ways. Among those paying tribute to her character is the show’s ex-leading man, Andrew Lincoln. Gurira’s former (?) onscreen beau saluted her in a way that most viewers probably weren’t expecting: with a song.

It turns out that Rick Grimes can play a mean piano. Earlier today, the official Walking Dead Instagram page posted a video of Lincoln singing a variation of Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die.” But instead of the famous chorus, he belts out “Simply Love You, Danai!” You can watch it for yourself below.

Lincoln also shared a memory of the first time his and Gurira’s characters met in The Walking Dead’s third season.

“We love you, Danai,” said Lincoln. “Wow, wow, wow, wow. What a thing. I remember the first time I met you. You were fainted. You had collapsed outside the gates of the prison. Ricky “doo-dah” Grimes and his son, I thought you were a maniac with your katana swords, but my son Carl thought we should save you. So I ran out. The whole production insisted that I didn’t pick you up, that the scene would finish just as I got you into a fireman’s lift. Oh no.”

On Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead, Michonne found evidence that Rick, who has been presumed dead for the last several years, is actually alive and, with Judith’s permission, set out to find him. Lincoln made his own exit from the series in season 9. The last time we saw his character, he was being loaded into a helicopter and flown to an undisclosed location. AMC will eventually air a series of films that show viewers what happened to Rick after his disappearance. Given the latest episode’s ending, an emotional reunion between him and Michonne seems all but guaranteed.
