Later this year, Marvel will explore the impact its characters have had on both longtime readers and pop culture at large with Marvel’s 616, a new docuseries premiering on Disney+. The show will include conversations with several major players in the comic industry who talk about the roles they played in shaping Marvel’s current status quo. Disney+ has also enlisted some recognizable faces to conduct these interviews. Now, Marvel is offering an early look at the series with sneak peeks at the second and fourth episodes.
Gillian Jacobs (Community and Love) helmed episode 2, “Higher, Further, Faster.” As the title implies, this installment spotlights Captain Marvel and how she resonated with a specific corner of Marvel fandom. The episode features an interview with editor Sara Amanat, who explains that a discussion with her former boss about her Muslim upbringing eventually led to the creation of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, the first Muslim character to headline a Marvel comic book. Another one of Kamala’s creators, G. Willow Wilson, also appears to talk about the character.

Meanwhile, the fourth episode of Marvel’s 616 comes from director Paul Scheer, who learns more about “forgotten” characters. That includes Doctor Druid, Whizzer, and Typeface. Additionally, the episode features a conversation with Reginald Hudlin about his game-changing run on Black Panther.
Marvel’s 616 is still without an official release date on Disney+. However, we expect more details to arrive as San Diego Comic-Con@Home gets underway this week.
