Adult Swim Shares First Look At Rick and Morty Season 5 Animatic

Comic-Con@Home may be all the rage this weekend, but Adult Swim Con is also taking place this weekend. Via IGN, at last night’s virtual Rick and Morty panel, series co-creator Dan Harmon was joined by cast members Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, and Spencer Grammer. Together, they debuted the first look at Rick and Morty season 5 in the form of an unfinished animatic. However, the clip did feature Justin Roiland’s vocal performance as both Rick and Morty.

The preview opens with Rick in dire straights, as Morty struggles to get them back home. Regardless, Morty faces his darkest moment and finds a renewed purpose that allows him to survive. At that point, Rick and Morty come face-to-face with Mr. Nimbus, Rick’s previously unseen nemesis. Nimbus also appears to be a riff on Marvel’s Namor the Sub Mariner.

Additionally, Harmon told fans that the writers have almost finished the scripts for season 6 while finalizing the fifth season finale. However, there’s currently no word about when the fifth season will premiere on Adult Swim.
