The COVID-19 outbreak forced many shows to change plans, including The Walking Dead. AMC’s hit series was amid its tenth season when the ongoing global health emergency stopped the production right before the season-ender. Consequently, fans had to wait for a while before the show’s grand finale, which has been delayed from its 2020 date release. While talking with Den of Geek, The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang revealed that the final battle of the Whisperer War might be the last episode featuring so many zombies for a while. And why we’re getting bonus episodes after the “finale.”
“We had been getting ready to shoot one of our typical really big scopey first episodes that has hundreds of zombies and people in really close quarters with each other, crammed into little spaces, and it didn’t feel like that was really feasible or safe or responsible in this time,” Kang said.

Kang then teased that COVID forced her and her writing team to come up with more intimate storylines for the six extra Season 10 episodes scheduled for early next year
“We’re loving getting to dive into some of these characters in a really deep way,” she added. “It all flows right into what we’re planning for season 11. It’s all in service of the story. Hopefully it will feel like these lead us right into those episodes and that we get to have fun along the way.”
The Walking Dead Season 10 finale will air on AMC on Sunday, Oct. 4.
