Eric Kripke Shares The Boys Season 3 Premiere Title, Says Filming Resumes Next Year

Following last week’s explosive season 2 finale, the cast and crew of The Boys are taking a well-earned break. But even amid the coronavirus pandemic, the series’ producers are looking ahead to season 3. Showrunner Eric Kripke took to Twitter earlier today to tease the start of work on season 3, which begins filming early next year. He also revealed the title of the new season’s first episode, which hints that The Seven could be facing some competition from a rival superhero team when the series returns. You can check out his announcement below.

In the comics, Payback was the name of Vought’s second most popular supe team. Its members included Soldier Boy, Tek Knight, Mind-Droid, Swatto, Crimson Countess, Stormfront, and Eagle the Archer. Viewers previously met the latter two heroes in The Boys season 2, although they were re-imagined for the TV series. Tek Knight was also mentioned in the season 1 episode where Butcher and Hughie visit a support group for civilians who have been victimized by supes. According to one woman, Tek Knight broke her spine while saving her, leaving her in a wheelchair. Earlier this year, it was announced that Jensen Ackles will play Soldier Boy in season 3.

The title page also shows that Craig Rosenberg, who recently penned two episodes of season 2,  wrote the premiere. Last month, Rosenberg was also drafted to spearhead The Boys’ upcoming companion series centering on a college for young supes-in-training. However, Kripke’s post seems to confirm that Rosenberg isn’t departing the flagship series to work on the spinoff.

The Boys season 3 will premiere sometime in 2021.
