A Wonder Girl TV Series Is In Development At The CW

Last month, DC announced that Yara Flor would be making her first appearance as the new Wonder Woman in next year’s Future State event. Now, the character is already poised to make her live-action debut on The CW. Deadline is reporting that the network is developing a new Wonder Girl series featuring Yara as the lead. The new show will mark the first Arrowverse series headlined by a Latina actress.

To write the series, The CW has chosen Dailyn Rodriguez. Previously, Rodriguez has served as an executive producer and co-showrunner on USA’s Queen of the South. Additionally, Rodriguez has worked as a writer and producer on The Night Shift, The Glades, and Ugly Betty. She’s collaborating with Arrowverse architect Greg Berlanti, who will executive produce the new series through his Berlanti Productions banner alongside Sarah Schechter and David Madden.

Writer and artist Joëlle Jones will introduce Yara as the daughter of an Amazon Warrior and a Brazilian River God. However, fans won’t actually get to meet her until Future State kicks off in January. This two-month event hits pause on all ongoing DC titles and instead propels fans into an uncertain future, where many of the DC Universe’s A-list characters have either died or passed on their mantles to younger heroes. Yara will succeed Diana Prince as the next Wonder Woman, but the fate of Diana herself is still unclear.
