Ezra Miller Plays Trashcan Man in Stephen King’s The Stand

It appears that CBS All Access has found the right face for Trashcan Man in The Stand TV series. EW broke the news that Justice League star Ezra Miller will portray Donald Elbert, a.k.a. Trashcan Man, in the upcoming series. The media outlet also offered a first look at the character and interviewed The Stand showrunner, Benjamin Cavell.

“It’s so different from any way that anyone has seen Ezra before, and he’s so committed to it,” Cavell said. “He’s a huge fan of the book and had fallen in love with this character and wanted to play it for a long time. On our first call, he described Trash as ‘the embodiment of pyromania.’ The only thing this guy was capable of, and the only area in life he was comfortable, were with the explosives and instruments of fire and destruction.”

“What excites me is the deception of behavior and appearances,” Miller then added. “Trash is the underestimated and misinterpreted amongst us.”

The casting arrived after months of rumors that pointed at rocker Marilyn Manson for the role.

Trashcan Man is a pivotal character from Stephen King’s 1978 post-apocalyptic novel. He is an unstable arsonist with a criminal record who immediately curries favor with the Satanic Randall Flagg, who looks particularly interested in the pyromaniac. Without revealing too much for those who haven’t read the book, his actions will profoundly affect the story. Max Headroom star Matt Frewer portrayed the character in the network miniseries back in the ’90s.

The Stand will premiere on CBS All Access on Thursday, December 17.
