Last month, Disney+ officially greenlit a small-screen continuation of Willow, with Warwick Davis set to reprise his role as the title character from Ron Howard’s 1988 fantasy film. Now, the producers have begun assembling the show’s supporting cast. Deadline is reporting that Ellie Bamber, Cailee Spaeny, and Erin Kellyman have joined the sequel series as its female leads.
Bamber has previously appeared in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. She also played Cosette on BBC’s TV adaptation of Les Misérables in 2018. Spaeny recently played a major role in The Craft: Legacy, which opened last month. Fans might also recognize her from her roles in Pacific Rim: Uprising and Bad Times at the El Royale. Meanwhile, Kellyman worked with Howard and Davis when she played Enfys Nest in Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018.

All three are playing completely new characters seemingly unrelated to the originals. According to this latest report, Bamber will play a character named Dove, “an unassuming kitchen maid” in the upcoming Willow sequel. Apparently, her backstory will be similar to that of Willow himself. Dove sets out on an adventure to save a kidnapped prince with a group that includes Spaeny and Kellyman’s characters. Spaeny has been cast as the prince’s twin sister, Kit, while Kellyman is playing her servant and best friend, Jade.
Solo co-writer Jonathan Kasdan wrote the pilot for the new series. He’s also acting as co-showrunner alongside Wendy Mericle. John M. Chu will direct the show’s first episode. The sequel will eventually begin production in Wales, where a good chunk of the original Willow was filmed. Disney+ has yet to set a release date.
