Last week, HBO Max officially gave Ava DuVernay and Roberto Patino’s DMZ adaptation a limited series order. It was previously reported that the show wouldn’t start shooting until next year. However, it looks like production is moving a bit faster than we initially thought.
Responding to a tweet from the official DC account asking fans if they were “prepared” for the show, DuVernay shared four photos from the upcoming adaptation of Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli’s Vertigo comic book series. You can check them out for yourself below.

Two of the images show Rosario Dawson, who is headlining DMZ as Alma Ortega. In the original comic, Alma is a nurse working in New York City, which has become the only demilitarized zone in America following the outbreak of a second civil war. When her son goes missing, she navigates the volatile power dynamics of Manhattan (which is now home to several gangs, militias, and warlords) in order to find him.

Additionally, the first shot offers an early look at Benjamin Bratt as NYC gang leader Parco Delgado and Freddy Miyares as his top triggerman, Skel. Hoon Lee and Jordan Preston Carter’s characters appear in other images.
Patino serves as the showrunner and executive producer for HBO Max’s take on DMZ. The series will run for four episodes, all of which were written by Patino. DuVernay is also working alongside him as director and executive producer.
HBO Max still hasn’t set a release date for DMZ.
