The Lord Of the Rings Series Adds Peter Mullan, Lenny Henry and More

It looks like fans will see some familiar faces in the upcoming Lord of the Rings series. According to a press release, Amazon has just cast Peter Mullan and Lenny Henry for the upcoming adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works. Mullan, also known for his directorial work, has already appeared in some fan-favorite franchises. The Scottish actor portrayed the Death Eater Yaxley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Other credits include playing James Delos in Westworld, in addition to a litany of supporting roles in movies like BraveheartTranspotting, and many more. More recently, he starred in the debut season of Netflix’s Cursed.

Veteran comedian Sir Lenny Henry took part in the Harry Potter franchise, voicing the Shrunken Head in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. More recently, he portrayed CEO of VOR Daniel Barton in Doctor Who, clashing with the titular hero after planning to turn the people on Earth into hard drives. There is no further information about the characters the British actors will play in the upcoming Amazon series.

Besides Mullan and Henry, Amazon has also cast Lloyd Owen (You, Me and the Apocalypse), Augustus Prew (Pure Genius), Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Arrow), Simon Merrells (Spartacus: War of the Damned), along with Maxim Baldry, Trystan Gravelle, Thusitha Jayasundera, Fabian McCallum, Geoff Morrell, and Sara Zwangobani.

Several actors from New Zealand also joined the show. Among them: Ian Blackburn, Kip Chapman, Anthony Crum, Maxine Cunliffe, as well as Alex Tarrant, Leon Wadham, and Peter Tait, who already acted in Peter Jackson’s Lord of The Rings trilogy.

According to Amazon’s plans, The Lord of the Rings should premiere on Prime Video somewhere in 2021. Amazon has yet to set an official release date.
