Report: HBO Max Is Developing a Harry Potter TV Series

Fans of the Wizarding World will rejoice to hear that some juicy news might be coming their way. According to both THR and Variety, HBO Max is looking for writers for an upcoming live-action television adaptation of Harry Potter. If confirmed, the news would be huge. The franchise still has plenty of fans worldwide, even 20 years after the first Harry Potter book by J.K. Rowling hit the stores. But while multiple media outlets confirm the news, HBO Max and Warner Bros. executives are denying the reports.

“There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform,” they said in a statement to THR.

At present, no writers or talent are currently attached to the project.

Warner Bros. has adapted the Harry Potter literary saga in eight movies. The first installment debuted in 2001, and it was an immediate success. The cinematographic saga concluded after 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Over the years, more and more reports indicated that a live-action TV series might be coming sooner or later. Now, it seems just a matter of time before the producers announce one officially. In the meantime, fans can return to the Wizarding World with the upcoming Fantastic Beasts 3. The film is still currently shooting in the UK, as Eddie Redmayne confirmed in a recent interview.
