Boyd Holbrook Talks About His Auditions For The Sandman

After dozens of false starts over the years, Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is finally crossing over to the live-action realm. Netflix announced the full cast for its upcoming adaptation of Gaiman’s celebrated Vertigo comic book series earlier this week. The cast also includes Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian. The original comic’s iconic status means that the show’s cast and crew are facing a lot of pressure to get things right. But according to Holbrook, they’re doing their best to honor the source material.

Holbrook recently spoke with Collider to discuss his newest film, Eight for Silver. However, he also found time to discuss his Sandman casting, which took longer than he expected.

“It was a long process,” said Holbrook. “I read the script and they were really adamant about everyone auditioning. So I went in – it must have been like a year ago, probably – and then I didn’t hear anything until probably like September or something like that. Anyways it was a long process, and the conversation just started and they wanted to tape again and they wanted me to meet with Neil which I was really interested in doing and talking about just how the show was going to be done.”

Holbrook also confirmed that the series began filming last month, with production expected to last until June at the earliest. Gaiman previously shared that the first season consists of 11 episodes. But since the original comic spans over 70 issues, there are lots of other story threads to explore. Unfortunately, Holbrook isn’t saying any more than this.

“I think everyone wants the show to continue [beyond Season 1],” added Holbrook. “I think it’s a standard contract that’s like seven, five years whatever. We have talked about all that. I don’t know if it’ll all work out. I think it might work out in different blocks of time, but yeah you definitely want to have some sort of macro idea of how long something’s gonna last. But I don’t wanna give away the details of how long.”

Netflix still hasn’t announced a premiere date for The Sandman.
