Jennifer Connelly Talks Melanie Cavill’s Mission in Snowpiercer Season 2

The second season of Snowpiercer debuted on TNT last week. Fans saw the return on the screen of some familiar faces from the show, including Jennifer Connelly’s Melanie Cavill. In the premiere, Melanie reunited with Mr. Wilford and her daughter Alexandra. And it appears that the complicated relationship between the Voice of the Train and the other two characters will be pivotal in the upcoming episodes.

“She’s reunited with her daughter and she’s also reunited with Wilford,” Connelly said while talking with Collider. “These are two really interesting and complicated relationships that she now explores. That’s the impetus for her to go further on this journey that she had started in Season 1, of taking stock of where she’s been and her past, and reconciling that to whatever extent she can, so that she can then, in an authentic way, go forward with her original mission and get back to herself, in some way, and to the more important task at hand.”

In the same interview, the actress also expressed interest in a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stating that she’s “there” in case Kevin Feige has a part for her.

“They’re making great movies,” she added. “They’re making really imaginative, good films and shows. I got a sneak peek of WandaVision, which my husband [Paul Bettany] happens to be in, and it’s so creative and imaginative. I love those kinds of movies. And Star Wars. If I could ever be in a Star Wars movie, my kids would love me a lot more.”

Connelly had a pre-MCU Marvel role in 2003’s Hulk as Betty Ross. On top of that, she voiced Karen, the voice of Tom Holland’s first Stark Spider-Man suit in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Currently, the MCU is pointing towards the introduction of the multiverse. It wouldn’t be too bold to say that Marvel might consider involving Connelly again sooner or later.

The second episode of Snowpiercer Season 2 will air on TNT on Feb. 1.
