HBO’s House of the Dragon Series Adds Four New Cast Members

Westeros just got a lot more crowded. Earlier today, the official Game of Thrones Twitter account announced that four new actors have joined the cast of HBO’s House of the Dragon. Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Rhys Ifans, and Sonoya Mizuno will play key roles on the network’s upcoming prequel series. You can check out the announcement below.

The producers have chosen Toussaint to play Lord Corlys Velaryon, the lord of his own namesake house. He also happens to be “the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros,” with the world’s largest navy at his disposal. This feat has earned him the nickname “The Sea Snake.” Best is playing his wife, Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, who is also the dragon-riding cousin of Westeros’ new king, Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine). Rhaenys was snubbed for the throne because of her gender, which prompts some to refer to her as “The Queen Who Never Was.”

Meanwhile, Ifans is co-starring as Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, who believes that Viserys’ brother, Daemon (Matt Smith) is the biggest threat to the realm. Whatever Daemon’s planning, he’ll have help from his “most trusted” ally, Mizuno’s Mysaria.

Last year, Toussaint appeared opposite John Boyega in Red, White and Blue, which was part of director Steve McQueen’s Small Axe anthology series. He previously appeared in 2010’s Prince of Persia adaptation and also had a role in the original Judge Dredd film in 1995. Best is known for her supporting role on Nurse Jackie. She recently appeared on Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga. Ifans is most widely recognized for playing Curt Connors in The Amazing Spider-Man. He also has a role in Matthew Vaughn’s The King’s Man, due later this year. Finally, Mizuno headlined FX on Hulu’s Devs last spring and also appeared on Netflix’s Maniac in 2018.

House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO sometime in 2022.
