After Terminator: Dark Fate, the future of the Terminator live-action franchise is still in question. Regardless of what happens on the big screen, the franchise will live on in an upcoming anime series from Netflix.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix, Skydance and Japan’s Production I.G have joined forces to produce a Terminator anime. Mattson Tomlin, the co-writer of The Batman film, has signed on to executive produce the new anime series and serve as the showrunner. Tomlin’s previous credits include Netflix’s Project Power, and he is also working on cinematic adaptations for Fear Agent and Mega Man.
“Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart,” said Tomlin in a statement. “I’m honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts.”

“Terminator is one of the most iconic sci-fi stories ever created–and has only grown more relevant to our world over time,” added Netflix’s John Derderian. “The new animated series will explore this universe in a way that has never been done before.”
The feature film franchise began in 1984 with The Terminator; which featured Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role. Five sequels have followed, to varying degrees of success. Additionally, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles ran for two seasons on Fox in 2008.
