WandaVision Creators Say They Introduced the Official MCU Darkhold

WandaVision ended its run on Disney+ a few days ago. Thanks to the character of Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness, the miniseries introduced the Darkhold into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But this was not the first time Marvel shows fans saw the Book of Sins in live-action. It has already played a part in Agents of SHIELD and Hulu’s Runaways. However, the previous versions of the tome featuring dark magic spells and the one from WandaVision are not the same. Like the shows they were on, those weren’t necessarily canon to the movies.

“It’s my impression that this is the MCU Darkhold,” WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer said while talking with Yahoo. “The only thing I can really say about it is that it’s the Book of the Damned, and there’s a whole chapter on the Scarlet Witch in there along with a lot of prophecy language. Other projects will tell you more, probably.”

In the same interview, both Schaeffer and WandaVision director Matt Shakman revealed that they weighed including a cameo from Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, but dropped the idea ultimately.

“We definitely thought about that idea, because he is a very important person in this world in terms of magic,” the director said. However, they felt that a cameo ultimately “wasn’t necessary to the story we were telling.” Schaeffer then added: “We knew that our show would feed into Multiverse of Madness, but that’s just not where we landed.”

Every episode of WandaVision is now on Disney+.

What do you think about the way they introduced the Darkhold in the MCU? Would you have preferred that they kept the other versions of the book? Let us know in the comment section below!
