Warning: There are spoilers ahead for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 2!
There’s a new Captain America in the MCU, and his name is John Walker. But he wasn’t the only new addition this week. Disney+ has premiered the second episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and we want to know what the Superhero Hype community thinks about it!
In the opening minutes, John revisits his old high school for a televised interview on Good Morning America. Neither Sam Wilson nor Bucky Barnes are amused when John claims a feeling of kinship with his predecessor, Steve Rogers. Shortly thereafter, Bucky tracks down Sam just as he is about to go on a mission to find the Flag-Smashers. However, Sam isn’t in the mood to debate about his reasons for giving up Cap’s shield. That may also be why Bucky invited himself along for the mission.
After landing in Europe, Sam and Bucky discover that the Flag-Smashers and their leader, Karli, are all super-soldiers. The new Cap and Battlestar/Lemar Hoskins show up just as Sam and Bucky are overwhelmed. Regardless, the Flag-Smashers easily overcome the heroes and escape. In the aftermath, John tries to recruit Sam and Bucky to fight by his side. Yet he only manages to alienate both of them.

Once they get back in the U.S., Bucky brings Sam to meet Isaiah Bradley, the prototype Cap from the Truth: Red, White & Black comic. Future Young Avenger, and Isaiah’s grandson, Eli Bradley, also briefly appears. In the MCU, Isaiah was a super-soldier in the ’50s who held his own against the Winter Soldier. But once Isaiah came home, he was imprisoned and experimented on for three decades. After Isaiah throws them out, a heated argument between Sam and Bucky draws the unwelcome attention of the police. And even after the situation is defused, Bucky gets arrested for skipping his court-mandated therapy.
John arranges for Bucky’s release, because he thinks it will make Bucky and Sam work with him. Before they leave, Dr. Christina Raynor forces Sam and Bucky to have a therapy session. But it only exposes their lingering animosity towards each other, and Bucky’s insecurity about his own redemption. Outside of the jail, Bucky and Sam once again reject John’s invitation to join him. After John warns them to stay out of his way, the Falcon and the Winter Soldier decide that one man may have the answers they need about the super-soldiers: Helmut Zemo.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s first two episodes are on Disney+. The third episode will debut on Friday, April 2.
