The week opens with some excellent news for Star Wars fans. After a couple of delays, the upcoming series focused on Obi-Wan Kenobi will finally enter production. In a press release, Starwars.com announced that the cameras would start shooting in April. On top of that, the story will take over 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, which ended with the clash between the titular hero and his Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who ultimately assumed the identity of Darth Vader after turning to the Dark Side.
The miniseries with the legendary Master Jedi was originally planned as a spin-off movie in the Star Wars Anthology Series line. However, the producers changed their plans after Solo: A Star Wars Story underperformed at the box office. At some point, the project turned into a TV series, but once again, production was delayed, apparently due to some problems with the script. At that time, actor Ewan McGregor invited fans to calm down, stating that there is “nothing dramatic” about the fact that the shooting will start a few months later than expected.

The producers have also debuted the full cast for the series, which takes place ten years after Episode III. As already announced, Ewan McGregor will lead the cast as Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series will also see the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Fans will see the return of some familiar faces from the prequel trilogy as Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse are resuming the roles of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, respectively. The Obi-Wan Kenobi show will also feature Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang (The Fast and Furious franchise’s “Han Seoul-Oh”), Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
For now, there’s no news of a hypothetical return of Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn. Even though he died during The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon Jinn was also the first Force ghost and retained his identity after his death. He already returned to guide the protagonists for a few episodes in The Clone Wars animated show.

The series will be helmed by The Mandalorian director Deborah Chow, who worked on a couple of pivotal episodes in freshman season of the fan-favorite show, “Chapter 3: The Sin” and “Chapter 7: The Reckoning.”

The producers have yet to announce an official release date for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. It will debut on Disney+.
