Showtime’s Let the Right One In Adds Anika Noni Rose

One month after choosing Demián Bichir to headline Showtime’s upcoming Let The Right One In series, the producers have found the show’s first supporting player. Variety is reporting that Anika Noni Rose has booked a role on the network’s adaptation of Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist’s acclaimed horror novel.

Rose will appear throughout the series as Naomi. According to her character breakdown, Naomi is “brilliant but cynical,” and also “balances life as a single mother with her career as a homicide detective.” Naomi also has a son named Isaiah, and it appears that he will be the one to get close with Eleanor, the young vampire girl who lives next door.

Bichir is starring in the series as Eleanor’s father, Mark. Although Lindqvist’s original novel and its previous film adaptations made it clear that the girl was centuries old (but frozen at age 12), it sounds like this new version is shaking things up a bit. Instead, the show will establish that Eleanor has only been a vampire for 10 years, which means Mark may be her actual father instead of pretending to be her dad.

Rose currently appears in several episodes of Amazon’s new horror anthology series, Them. Disney fans may also recognize her as the voice of Tiana in 2009’s The Princess and the Frog, which made her the first Black Disney princess. Additionally, Rose has Broadway experience, and won a Tony for her performance in Caroline, or Change in 2004. Some of her other credits include 2006’s Dreamgirls and a recurring gig on Starz’s Power.

Showtime’s take on Let the Right One In comes from showrunner and executive producer Andrew Hinderaker. Seith Mann will direct the pilot episode and is also onboard as an executive producer. The network hasn’t announced a premiere date for the series.
