The renewal of Loki for a second season wasn’t entirely a surprise. The story, and especially the cliffhanger ending, seemed designed for a follow up. However, one of season 1’s architects won’t be returning.
Via Deadline, director Kate Herron confirmed that she only signed on for a single season. And she also has no plans to do any more than that.
“I’m not returning,” said Herron. “I always planned to be just on for this and to be honest, season 2 wasn’t in the — that’s something that just came out and I’m so excited. I’m really happy to watch it as a fan next season, but I just think I’m proud of what we did here and I’ve given it my all. I’m working on some other stuff yet to be announced.”

Additionally, Herron shot down speculation that she would move on to Marvel theatrical movie.
“No, I’m just focused on my own stuff at the moment,” noted Herron. “I love Marvel and I’d love to work with them again, but my outing with Loki is what I’ve done with them.”
While speaking with Marvel.com, series star Tom Hiddleston admitted that season 2 is still in “discussions.” Regardless, he’s eager to revisit his signature role.
“We are already in discussions,” said Hiddleston. “Deep, deep, deep discussions. I can’t wait to get started [and] I want to say thank you to the audience because without the audience, we wouldn’t be able to make a season 2. I hope season 1 was full of surprises. And I think season 2 will be full of even more.”
All six episodes of Loki season 1 are now streaming on Disney+.
