Yorick and Ampersand Hit the Road in the First Y: The Last Man Trailer

Y: The Last Man is easily one of the most celebrated indie comics of the early 2000s, so there’s a lot riding on its upcoming small-screen adaptation. Hollywood has been trying to bring Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s series to life for well over a decade, hitting more than its fair share of speedbumps along the way. But now, FX on Hulu has the keys to the post-apocalyptic kingdom, and fans can finally watch the show’s first trailer ahead of its debut next month. Check it out for yourself below.

The trailer introduces viewers to Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer), the lone human survivor of a mysterious plague that wipes out every living mammal possessing a Y chromosome. There’s no shortage of chilling shots of the plague’s aftermath, with car pile-ups littering freeways and bodies scattered everywhere else. And not surprisingly, the fallout from the event plunges our male-dominated society into chaos.

Just like in the comic, Yorick will occasionally sport a gas mask to avoid drawing attention to his miraculous survival. Joining him on his quest is his pet Capuchin monkey, Ampersand, who was also spared from the plague’s effects. We also see several key members of the supporting cast, including Olivia Thirlby as Yorick’s sister, Hero (working her pre-apocalypse job as a paramedic). And of course, his two other traveling companions, Agent 355 (Ashley Romans) and Dr. Allison Mann (Diana Bang), show up as well. Diane Lane co-stars as Yorick and Hero’s mother, Jennifer Brown, who assumes the office of the President.

Y: The Last Man premieres on FX on Hulu on September 13.
