Earlier this year, HBO Max cast American Horror Story veteran Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner, the Green Lantern of the ’80s. For non-comic book readers, the quick explanation for Guy is that he was the Green Lantern Corps’ resident a**hole. Regardless of his more bearable personality in the modern comics, Guy still has a bad reputation.
While speaking with EW, Wittrock acknowledged that Guy is a “polarizing figure.” However, he maintains that Guy has “a heart of gold” underneath his bluster.
“He takes on a lot of this show. He’s a pretty big part of it,” said Wittrock. “I think it’s an interesting way in [to the story]. It’s not the conventional way in, but I think people might see a side of him they didn’t know was there.”

Wittrock also indicated his belief that the series will be able to move beyond the Green Lantern film.
“It is really cool how sprawling a storyline it is,” added Wittrock. “It’s pretty epic. It spans time and space and has something for everyone. It’s not your average superhero story…There’s a lot of story there. I think maybe it was just too much to fit into a movie. We have the time and the space, thanks to HBO, to really explore a lot of it on a big scale. I think it’s going to be a different animal, to be honest.”
Green Lantern will likely begin filming later this year or in early 2022.
