Netflix Announces The Witcher Season 3, Plans New Spinoffs

Earlier today, Netflix’s Tudum event came to a close with a panel devoted to all things Witcher. And while the flagship series’ second season has yet to drop on the platform, the streaming service had good news for its rabid fanbase. Not only has The Witcher been given an early season 3 renewal, but the show’s universe is expanding with two new spinoff projects.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, The Witcher season 2 already aims to broaden the scope of Geralt’s adventures, with several new characters and locations from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels coming later this year. Some of these new faces include Kim Bodnia as Geralt’s mentor, Vesemir, along with Paul Bullion’s Lambert and Graham McTavish’s Dijkstra. Netflix also just released a new extended trailer and two clips from the upcoming season that set up Geralt’s continuing journey with Ciri and Yennefer across the Continent.

Meanwhile, the streamer also announced that it’s currently developing a second Witcher anime film. This comes after the release of The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which premiered last month and traced Vesemir’s origins. There’s still no word on whether the next animated feature will continue this story or tell another one altogether. However, it isn’t the only new Witcher spinoff on the horizon. Netflix is plotting another series aimed at kids and families.

Tudum also gave viewers an update on The Witcher: Blood Origin. This spinoff will take place 1200 years before the main series and reveal how the first Witcher came into existence. Additionally, Netflix released a new behind-the-scenes tour of the Blood Origin set, which you can view below.
