Amazon Finally Orders The Boys Spinoff To Series

Class is officially in session at Vought’s school of hard knocks. According to Variety, Amazon has given a series order to The Boys’ first spinoff series, which takes place at a college for young supes bankrolled by The Seven’s corporate masters.

Amazon began developing the new series last year, when The Boys season 2 was just getting underway. Craig Rosenberg, a writer on the flagship series, was originally set as the project’s showrunner. However, Variety also confirms that there have been a few changes behind the scenes. Rosenberg has apparently left the new show over creative differences with the studio. In his wake, Prime Video has tapped Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters to guide the series’ development.

Fazekas and Butters are regular collaborators who also run their own namesake production company. Their latest creation was Emergence, which aired one 13 episode season on ABC during the 2019-2020 TV season. In 2007, they created The CW’s Reaper, which achieved cult status despite only lasting for two seasons. Fazekas and Butters also co-showran Marvel’s Agent Carter series with Chris Dingess from 2015 until the show’s cancellation a year later.

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke is also working on the as-yet-untitled spinoff as an executive producer. He also shared a new statement welcoming Fazekas and Butters aboard:

“Much like Mork & Mindy spun-off from Happy Days—which is an insane and true fact—our spinoff will exist in the Vought Cinematic Universe, yet have a tone and style all its own,” said Kripke. “It’s our take on a college show, with an ensemble of fascinating, complicated, and sometimes deadly Young Supes. Michele and Tara are stone-cold geniuses, we’re thrilled to have them steer this ship, and grateful to Sony and Amazon for the opportunity. We love this show and can’t wait for you to see it. Also, Baywatch Nights spun-off from Baywatch, and it had vampires. Vampires!”
