Marvel Zombies and a New Spider-Man Animated Series Are Coming To Disney+

X-Men ’97 and What If…? season 2 won’t be the only original Marvel animated shows on Disney+.  Via The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Marvel have also announced Marvel Zombies and a new Spider-Man animated series.

It’s unclear if Marvel Zombies will build off of the zombie episode of What If…? or if it will take its cues from Robert Kirkman’s Marvel Zombies comic. Regardless, the new series will reimagine “the Marvel Universe as a new generation of heroes fights the zombie plague.” Bryan Andrews will direct the series.

Additionally, Spider-Man: Freshman Year appears to be a MCU related animated series. It’s going to follow Peter Parker’s earliest adventures before the events of Captain America: Civil War.

As THR points out, Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming established Peter as a sophomore in high school. Presumably Freshman Year will fill in some of the Spidey gaps, including his origin and the death of Uncle Ben. Jeff Trammel is the head writer on the show, and it will celebrate “the early comic roots of the character.”

While Sony and Marvel have yet to renew their shared custody of Spider-Man post-No Way Home, this new animated series seems like a good sign that Spidey will remain in the MCU.

What If…? season 2 had already been discussed openly by that show’s creative team. However, Disney+ officially made the renewal announcement today. That means there are now four Marvel animated original shows for the streamer. And there are potentially more on the way.
