Comic Writer Matt Fraction Details His Role on the Hawkeye Series

Disney+’s upcoming Hawkeye series takes its influence from several sources, but primarily from the iconic Hawkeye comic book series by writer Matt Fraction and artist David Aja. Within that comic, Fraction and Aja introduced Lucky the Pizza Dog, the Tracksuit Mafia, and they also cemented the partnership between Clint Barton and Kate Bishop. All of those elements will included on the show, and the official poster (top right) even borrows from Aja’s artwork. And it turns out that Fraction was involved with the live-action series. Via Comic Book, Fraction was interviewed by The Ringer about his role on the series.

“I am, I think, credited as consulting producer, though, I’d have to check with my agent and probably just read the credits,” said Fraction. “But it’s the best because I get to take all the credit. And I get to cast glory and David and Annie and hope none of the blame. I read scripts and offered thoughts. And that was in sort of throughout the process.”

Additionally, Fraction revealed that he was originally slated to have a cameo role as one of the Tracksuit Mafia. However, COVID and other concerns prevented that from occurring.

“I was supposed to be a tracksuit,” said Fraction. “It was gonna fit, but between COVID, [this] was before shots were really happening and my immunocompromised mother lives with us and traveling was kind of a thing. And we got a pandemic puppy. So between quite feeling cool to travel and a puppy, I didn’t get to be a tracksuit. So I was this close to being a tracksuit. Other than that consultant producer.”

The first two episodes of Hawkeye will hit Disney+ on November 24.
