Amandla Stenberg In Talks To Join Star Wars: The Acolyte

Ahsoka isn’t the only new Star Wars series heating up. According to Variety, the producers behind Star Wars: The Acolyte are courting Amandla Stenberg to play the show’s lead character.

Because Star Wars projects are always shrouded in secrecy, Stenberg’s role remains a mystery for now. Regardless, we already know that The Acolyte takes place during the last days of the High Republic era. Earlier reports have also described the series as a female-led mystery thriller that will involve the sudden emergence of mysterious dark side powers. And it’s just as well that in Star Wars canon, an “acolyte” typically refers to a young Sith who has just begun their training.

Stenberg’s first role was a younger version of Zoe Saldana’s character in 2011’s Columbiana, before going on to play Rue in The Hunger Games. Additionally, Stenberg rose to further prominence after a critically acclaimed performance in The Hate U Give. Most recently, Stenberg also appeared in the film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen, which hit theaters back in September.

The Acolyte was one of several new Star Wars shows announced during last year’s Disney Investor Day livestream. Leslye Headland, who previously co-created Netflix’s Russian Doll, is spearheading the project as its showrunner and executive producer.

Lucasfilm hasn’t announced a premiere date for Star Wars: The Acolyte.
