Paramount+’s Halo Series Takes Place in Its Own Timeline

Anticipation for Paramount+’s Halo series reached a fever pitch this month after the first trailer premiered during The Game Awards. However, there’s been some mystery as to when the series takes place in the original video games’ timeline. Various spinoffs and tie-ins have explored different corners of the Halo franchise over the years. But it sounds like the TV show will have its own canon to worry about.

343 Industries’ head of transmedia Kiki Wolfkill confirmed this in a new interview shared via Halopedia on Twitter. She explained the TV show will honor the lore of the Halo games while also moving the franchise in new directions. Additionally, she revealed the official name for this new timeline.

“We do have some context and perspective that is different from some of those stories that we’ve experienced or read about in the games,” said Wolfkill. “We’re referring to this as the Halo Silver Timeline as a way of differentiating it from core canon and both protecting core canon and protecting the television story, and by that I mean being able to give ourselves the chance to evolve both and for both to be what they need to be for their mediums without colliding with each other.”

Although this news might upset Halo purists, having the show exist in its own universe allows the filmmakers to preserve the element of surprise with its audience. It also lets them introduce some new characters along the way, including Yerin Ha’s Kwan Ha. Regardless, the series will still feature plenty of recognizable fixtures from the games, including Danny Sapani’s Captain Jacob Keyes and Jen Taylor’s Cortana.

Halo will premiere on Paramount+ in early 2022.
