Amazon Prime Shifts The Legend of Vox Machina Premiere To January

Rejoice, Critters–The Legend of Vox Machina is hitting Amazon Prime Video a week earlier than expected. The new animated series based on Critical Role’s first Dungeons & Dragons campaign was previously set for a February debut. But now, Entertainment Weekly brings word that the show will instead premiere on January 28.

The Critical Role team is composed of several all-star voice actors who began streaming their own D&D games via Twitch in 2015. Since then, they have amassed a large following of viewers who tune into their weekly live-streams. The original Legend of Vox Machina campaign spanned 115 episodes and starred each actor as a different hero in the titular party. Next month, viewers will see their characters come to life with help from Titmouse, the animation studio behind such hits as Netflix’s Big Mouth and Adult Swim’s The Venture Bros.

Originally, The Legend of Vox Machina was announced in 2019 as a one-off animated special to be financed through Kickstarter. But when the crowdfunding campaign sailed through its initial goals, the creators re-imagined the project as an ongoing series. Within months, Amazon gave it a two-season order and a first-look deal to develop other shows.

As a bonus, Amazon has also released a new clip from Vox Machina’s first season showcasing how the team meets a challenge as simple as opening a locked door. And it looks like the series retains the lighthearted feel of Critical Role itself. You can watch the full scene below.
