Adria Arjona Describes Her Experience In Star Wars: Andor

2022 is poised to be a big year for Adria Arjona. Aside from her recent appearance in Sony’s Morbius, she is also joining the Star Wars universe in a role opposite Diego Luna in the Andor spinoff. Lucasfilm continues to keep its secrets about the highly-anticipated series. But this didn’t stop Arjona from talking about her experience during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The nature of Andor’s plot is such a closely-guarded secret that Arjona couldn’t even reveal her character’s name. All she could confirm is that she plays a “very practical woman” on the show, which takes place before the events of Rogue One and recounts Cassian Andor’s early adventures with the Rebel Alliance. Arjona confirmed that she had auditioned for other Star Wars projects in the past. But by the time she finally got onto a set, she couldn’t help feeling a little overwhelmed.

“During preparation, I kept telling myself, ‘I’m just not going to think that this is Star Wars,’” said Arjona. “‘Because the more I think it’s Star Wars, the more nervous I get.’ And when I showed up on set, I was like, ‘There’s no way I can get away with not thinking about the fact that this is Star Wars.’ Every gadget, every prop, everywhere you’d look, you’re like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in Star Wars.’ (Laughs.) So I had to embrace it and be like, ‘Okay, I’m in Star Wars.’ (Laughs.)”

“They’d build an entire city, and everything was sort of 360,” continued Arjona. “The camera can sort of shoot everywhere, and it was really mind blowing. And I also love my character. I wish I could tell you more about her, but I don’t even think I can give you her name. I was actually going to tattoo her name on my arm. And then I was like, ‘What if I take a picture or something and people are like, ‘Wait, What is that thing?” So I was like, ‘Ah s***, I have to wait for it to come out.’ (Laughs.)

Arjona also recalled auditioning with Luna for showrunner Tony Gilroy. But despite any lingering jitters, her performance convinced them to hire her on the spot.

“Right before walking in, I looked at Diego and I was shaking,” remembered Arjona. “I was like, ‘I am so nervous.’ And he just put a hand on my shoulder and said, ‘You got this.’ And I was like, ‘Oh god, I hope so.’ And then Tony gave me the role in the room. I only did the scene once and he said, “You got the job, my friend. Welcome to Star Wars.”

Disney+ hasn’t announced a premiere date for Andor, but it will premiere this year.
