The Quantum Leap accelerator is officially starting up again. Via Deadline, the Quantum Leap reboot has officially been ordered to series by NBC. Along with the news came the first picture of Raymond Lee as Dr. Ben Seong, the show’s new time traveler. Check it out above.
In the original series, Scott Bakula portrayed Dr. Sam Beckett, the inventor of the Quantum Leap accelerator, and the man who used it to time travel within his own lifetime. One of the quirks of the machine is that while Sam physically swapped places with someone in time, everyone in the past saw Sam as the person he was supposed to be. Although Sam was physically cut off from his present, his friend, Al Calavicci (Dean Stockwell), was able to communicate with him in the form of a hologram that only Sam could see or hear.
The new show is more of a revival than a full reboot. It takes place three decades after Sam disappeared into the accelerator. Ben is one of the new team that has joined Project Quantum Leap in the hope of understanding what happened to Sam. And somehow, Ben will end up following in Sam’s footsteps by going back in time to put right what once went wrong.

Deadline’s report indicates that Bakula is not involved with the reboot despite previous negotiations. In fact, Bakula has a potential NBC show of his own called, Unbroken, which is awaiting a possible series order.
Ghostbusters veteran Ernie Hudson is co-staring on the new series as Herbert “Magic” Williams, “a Vietnam veteran and head of the time travel project at Quantum Leap.” Magic Williams actually appeared on the original series as a much younger man during one of Sam’s leaps through time.
La Brea‘s Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt are writing and executive producing the new Quantum Leap pilot. Martin Gero, Deborah Pratt, and Quantum Leap creator Don Bellisario are also executive producing the revival.
NBC may announce the launch date of Quantum Leap later this month.
