Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen Bring the Multiverse to SNL

With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness easily topping the box office charts, few had any doubts that Saturday Night Live would mention it somehow. Especially with Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, serving as host. And while he joked about all the writers pitching Doctor Strange sketches, strongly implying he might not do one, the show found a backdoor way to bring the multiverse to SNL.

In a sketch entitled “The Understudy,” cast regular Chloe Fineman jokes about how, during times of COVID, she could be called upon at any time to fill in for any other cast member. Initially, this premise simply serves as an excuse to showcase her impressions of all her coworkers.

But then it gets Strange…literally. When she tries to fool Cumberbatch with her Elizabeth Olsen impersonation, the real Olsen shows up. Causing the star to wonder if his movie actually became real.

Check it out in the player below:

Cumberbatch sells the joke with such sincerity, it’s no wonder he scored a Best Actor Oscar nomination. And should Olsen inevitably return to host, Fineman’s clearly ready to become her understudy too.
