Sony Confirms Horizon Series on Netflix and God of War on Amazon

Earlier this year, word broke that Amazon Prime Video was developing a live-action series based upon Sony’s God of War games. Now, via IGN, Sony has not only confirmed God of War, it has also revealed that a show based on the Horizon games is in development at Netflix.

The first God of War game was released in 2005, and the series follows Kratos, a Spartan warrior who was betrayed by Ares. As penance for killing his family while under Ares’ influence, Kratos served the Gods of Olympus before ultimately turning against them. Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, the creators and executive producers of The Expanse, are developing the God of War series. Additionally, Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) is also executive producing the show for Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.

Horizon is a more recent addition to Sony’s library of PlayStation franchises. Horizon Zero Dawn, was released in 2017 and it introduced gamers to a young woman named Aloy. She lives in a far future timeline that is overrun by mechanized creatures. A sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, was released earlier this year.

Sony also revealed that a Gran Turismo series is in development, but very little is known about that show. The Gran Turismo titles are racing games and they don’t have any main characters.

The latest news continues Sony’s push into live-action series adaptations of its PS games. HBO will debut The Last of Us next year, while Peacock is currently assembling the cast of Twisted Metal.
