The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Reveals Five New Character Names

Back in February, before The Lord of Rings: The Rings of Power debuted its first teaser trailer during the Super Bowl, Amazon released 23 new character posters for the upcoming series. All of these posters neglected to show more than the characters’ hands and torsos. But with the first episode coming this fall, Amazon (via Collider) has revealed which actors are bringing some of these roles to life. Rings of Power Reveals

Charles Edwards (The Crown) will appear as Celebrimbor, an elf who is also one of the show’s leads. Author J.R.R. Tolkein previously introduced Celebrimbor in The Silmarillion as the elven-smith manipulated by Sauron into forging the Rings of Power themselves. More recently, he appeared in the video games Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War.

Other new additions include several actors embodying the Harfoots, which are precursors to Hobbits. Their ranks feature Sir Lenny Henry as Sadoc Burrows, Dylan Smith as Largo Brandyfoot, Sara Zwangobani as Marigold Brandyfoot, and Megan Richards as Poppy Proudfellow.

Director J.A. Bayona also shared a photo from the series premiere on his Instagram page earlier today, confirming that “Shadow of the Past” is the title of the show’s pilot. Additionally, Bayona’s caption confirms that the episode was filmed by cinematographer Óscar Faura, who has previously shot The Imitation Game and also collaborated with Bayona on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and A Monster Calls.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon Prime on September 2.
