Last year, the fan-favorite Castlevania anime series wrapped up its four season run on Netflix. The streaming service only waited a week before announcing that a spinoff series was in the works. For the final day of this year’s Geeked Week, Netflix revealed the first look at the Castlevania: Nocturne animated series. And its hero is a very familiar name from the hit Konami video game franchise.
There’s not very much in the way of footage here, as the camera closes in on the next hero in the Belmont family line. However, the video does confirm that the man in question is Richter Belmont, the hero from Castlevania: Rondo of Blood who also had a role in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Although the initial announcement described Richter as the son of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, Netflix described him today as “a descendant of the Belmont family.” One of the other supporting characters previously confirmed for this series was Richter’s distant relative, Maria Renard.
Kevin Kolde is showrunning the new series alongside creator and writer, Clive Bradley. Powerhouse Animation is returning to animate the series, which will be produced by Project 51 Productions for Netflix. For the moment, there is no release date for the series. But we wouldn’t bet against a 2023 premiere.
