The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Is Coming To Comic-Con

After two years away from the San Diego Convention Center, Comic-Con is finally coming back as an in-person event next month with four days of celebrity panels, industry announcements, and cosplay galore. The full programming schedule has yet to be released. However, we now know that at least one highly-anticipated TV series will be making a big splash in Hall H. Deadline brings word that the stars and creators of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will appear at the convention to discuss their work on the upcoming show.

The panel will notably feature Rings of Power showrunners J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on which cast members will be joining them. But as big as Hall H is, there probably isn’t room for all of them on that stage. The series will introduce at least two dozen main characters when it debuts on Amazon Prime Video this fall. Regardless, we can likely expect appearances by major players including Morfydd Clark and Robert Aramayo, who star as younger versions of Galadriel and Elrond, respectively.

Set during Middle-earth’s Second Age, the series will reveal how the Rings of Power were forged around the same time as Sauron’s rise to power. In addition to familiar characters from J.R.R. Tolkien’s original Lord of the Rings trilogy, the show will also make room for some new faces as well. Viewers will also bounce back and forth between a wide variety of stunning locations, brought to life using the best visual effects that money can buy. Almost half a billion dollars, to be exact!

The Lord of the Rings franchise has a long history with Comic-Con. In 2001, the cast and crew of The Fellowship of the Ring gathered at the convention to give fans an early look at the first live-action adaptation of Tolkein’s work. But presumably, The Rings of Power’s panel will be just as memorable, especially if new footage debuts at the con.

San Diego Comic-Con kicks off on Thursday, July 20 and will run all the way through Sunday, July 24. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will debut on Amazon Prime on September 2.
